A splendid 3-course St David’s Day dinner, with guest speaker Kirsty Williams, an Honorary Club Member widely considered the most powerful Liberal Democrat in British politics since the end of the Tory-Lib Dem Coalition at Westminster.
Kirsty spent five years from 2016-21 in the challenging post of Education Minister in the Welsh government in Cardiff Bay, as the sole Lib Dem in what was an otherwise-Labour administration.
She was also the first woman to lead a major political party in Wales and the Welsh peer and Lib Dem Treasurer, Lord (Mike) German describes Kirsty as “a shining light for Liberalism in the 22 years she served in the Welsh Parliament. Her influence on the Labour-dominated Welsh government was far greater than predicted by her role as its only Liberal Democrat member.
