Screening of a recording of Donizetti’s comic opera, ‘Don Pasquale

Donizetti’s final comic opera features Don Pasquale, a wealthy middle-aged bachelor, who is outraged when his nephew Ernesto plans to marry Norina, an impoverished widow. He decides to find a wife for himself and disinherit Ernesto. Unwisely he accepts help from a dubious Doctor who offers his own sister as a potential bride. The cast includes Alessandro Corbelli as Don Pasquale, Daniele de Niese as Norina, Nikolay Borchev as Dr Malatesta and Alek Shrader as Ernesto. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Enrique Mazzola. The slightly surreal production by Mariame Clement features a gigantic revolving set and some spectacular costumes. Places are free but do need to be booked in advance.
