7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Jonathan Fryer Memorial Lecture at the NLC. in conjunction with the Kettner Society, LIBG (Liberal International British Group) and NLC’s LGBTQ+ Forum
It will be over a year, since we sadly lost Jonathan Harold Fryer on the 16th April 2021 and in his Memory, York Membery has offered to speak about the history of the Orpington By-election in his Memory.
The event is being co-hosted by three specific organisations all of which were part of Jonathan’s amazingly diverse and varied commitments. The Kettner Society, Liberal International British Group, LGBTQ+ Forum.
Our Speaker is York Membery, who is a journalist and historian, contributing regularly to the Daily Mail, Sunday Times, BBC History Magazine and The Oldie. Prior to turning freelance he worked on the Daily Mirror, Daily Express and Sunday Times. He is also a contributing editor to the Journal of Liberal History. After studying history at Cardiff University he took a Masters in Contemporary British History at the University of London. In 2021 he was awarded a doctorate by Maastricht University on completion of his PhD history thesis on ‘The Making of Orpington: British Political Culture and the Strange Revival of Liberalism, 1958-64’.
