Equality Diversity Inclusion: In Conversation with Lynne O’Donnell
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
For this next Equality Diversity Inclusion talk, the group are delighted to welcome journalist and author, Lynne O’Donnell to the Club who will share her first-hand experiences on the battlefield in the lead-up to the fall of Kabul. She will also provide insight on what has been happening since, under Taliban control, with particular attention to women and minority nationalities, and how Afghan people who have fled the dangers they faced in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan are being treated by the UK government.
Lynne O’Donnell is a journalist and author. She was in Afghanistan in October 2001 to report on the US-led invasion that drove the Taliban from power. And she was in Kabul in August 2021 when the Taliban returned, after spending three months covering the war from frontlines across the country. Between 2009 and 2017 she was bureau chief in Afghanistan for two of the world’s major news agencies. She is a columnist for Foreign Policy magazine, and is working on a book about what led to the fall of Kabul, called The Great Betrayal.
This will be a hybrid event with an optional pre-bookable dinnerafterwards – 2 courses for £32.50 .
