A Kettner Concert
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Kettner Artist-in-residence Hannah-Elizabeth Teoh performs the complete set of iconic ’24 Preludes’ by Frederic Chopin. These enduringly popular piano treasures represent the best of Chopin’s artistry, distilled into perfectly-formed ephemera that in some cases are barely a minute in length.
Alongside this, our newly-appointed Composer-in-Residence, Daniel Lee Chappell, presents his first work for the Kettner Society, with the World Premiere of his ‘Microludes’. A collection of similarly compact miniatures, these 12 pieces are full of character, taking inspiration from Chopin’s work. The composer writes: “Encapsulated within each is a single idea (whether a mood, a texture, or a particular technique), which is brought joyously into being before extinguishing itself. Written to be accessible for the amateur and professional pianist alike, some are astonishingly simple whilst others require an immensely adept facility at the instrument.”
